More about dental makeovers

Smile Makeover Initial Considerations

To complete your Smile Makeover, the dentists will develop a comprehensive treatment plan customised to meet your appearance goals. This treatment plan may consist of a combination of many cosmetic treatments, potentially including teeth whitening, bonding, veneers, dental crowns, orthodontics, oral maxillofacial surgery, and gummy smile reduction.

Oral Health Evaluation

Your oral health must be evaluated prior to treatment planning. If your evaluation reveals that you have oral conditions such as a misaligned bite (malocclusion), gum disease, or extensive tooth decay you will need to undergo restorative treatment prior to your Smile Makeover.

If this evaluation reveals you have a collapsing bite or severely worn teeth the cosmetic makeover may need to be upgraded to a full reconstruction.

Smile Makeover Considerations

What you like or don't like about your smile or your teeth is the main consideration. Smile Makeovers are performed for many reasons and are customised according to your unique considerations. The dentists will work closely with you to develop a treatment plan designed to achieve exactly what you want out of your makeover.

There Are Number Of Things You And The Dentists Will Consider:

  • Divine Proportion
  • Teeth Length
    • Aging produces wear and tear that often results in shorter teeth.
    • A gummy smile can make teeth appear shorter.
    • Long teeth lend a youthful appearance

A Smile Makeover treatment for shorter teeth may include reshaping and lengthening the front central teeth through composite fillings or veneers. If you have a gummy smile, you may need laser treatment to modify the gum line and lengthen the appearance of the teeth.

Teeth lengthening may also impact overall facial appearance. For example, shapely, long, square teeth on a round-faced individual can provide a slimming effect for the face.

  • Tooth Form
Dark, stained, chipped, worn out and missing teeth suggest an aged mouth. A well-shaped smile comprised of bright, white teeth lends to a youthful appearance.
  • Tooth Colour
Tooth colour and shading are important considerations during the evaluation of and preparation for a smile makeover. Silver or amalgam, old white filling or crowns can be replaced with natural, tooth-coloured restorations. Teeth whitening can improve the colour of stained teeth.  The shade your dentist selects for teeth whitening and restorations is carefully evaluated with special consideration given to the tone and colour of your face and hair, and with what colour you want to achieve.
  • Aligned for Success
Crooked, overlapping, or gapping teeth can be straightened when necessary through orthodontics or veneers and crowns.
  • Contoured for Look
Uneven teeth can be bonded for improved appearance. Gummy smiles can be re-contoured with the Biolase Laser to help improve the overall look of the smile.
  • The Full Face Effect
An un-shapely or aging face can be improved or rejuvenated with certain procedures in the Smile Makeover category, including orthodontics and/or oral maxillofacial surgery or botox.
  • Tooth Characterisation
The dentists are adept at blending functionality and aesthetics. For example, our artistic dentists can characterise the teeth to enhance a more feminine or a more masculine appearance in addition to providing a whitening treatment that suggests a more youthful you.

A Smile Makeover treatment for dis-coloured, misshapen, or missing teeth may include restorative procedures such as teeth whitening, implants, crowns, or veneers. Aesthetic composite filings or veneers may improve chipped and worn out teeth, while dental implants replace missing teeth. A Smile Makeover involves consideration of your facial appearance, skin tone and hair colour.

The Life Of Your Smile Makeover

Cosmetic dentistry procedures require maintenance over time. Teeth whitening must be repeated on occasion in order to maintain brightness. Porcelain veneers may chip or break off and need replacement. Composite bonding may stain and require enhancement or replacement. Dental porcelain restorations typically require replacement after 10 – 15 years. Gummy smile improvements may also require enhancement over time.

Smile Makeover – Treatment Planning

An integral part of a Smile Makeover process is the preview of potential results you receive before treatment begins. The dentists incorporate a variety of dental technologies to show you the changes that you can expect to see in your smile.

  • Before and After Photos:
Before and after photos of other patients who have had Smile Makeovers offer samples of the results you may expect to see. The photos will also give you an idea of the quality of work performed by the dentists.

  • Dental Study Models:
Your dentist will take an impression of your teeth and fill it with plaster to form an exact model of your teeth. The plaster can then be reshaped by trimming away excess areas or enlarging areas that require more volume. These study models will be used to show you every aspect of the changes you can expect to see with your makeover. Dental lab technicians also use study models as guides for fabricating makeover materials like crowns or veneers.
  • Dental Bonding Mock-up:
Dental bonding may serve as a mock-up of your Smile Makeover. The dentist can temporarily bond composite resin material to your teeth so you can fully visualize the impact of the procedure before treatment begins. In the case of veneers, dental bonding allows you to identify how comfortable you are with their look, feel, and fit. Adjustments may be made until you are comfortable with the function and appearance of your new smile. Temporary bondings have no lasting impact on your teeth once they are removed.

The duration of treatment and cost of your Smile Makeover will vary depending on your location, and the state of your oral health. A Smile Makeover may take significantly longer and be more expensive if we identify any underlying oral health issues before beginning treatment.
